Description
Ectothermic reptiles rely on external sources such as the sun for warmth, as they are unable to produce their own body heat. They utilize this heat energy to maintain their bodily functions, digest food and stay healthy. Therefore, heat lamps are necessary to provide the heat required by reptiles. The Zoo Med Repti Basking Spot Lamp, designed with a double reflector, is an incandescent spot-style basking bulb that focuses 35% more heat and light compared to regular spot lamps.
Instructions:
To use the lamp, first, install it into a ceramic-socket lamp that has a wattage rating above that of the bulb. Plug the lamp into a surge protector and position it on either the far left or far right side of the terrarium to create an optimal temperature gradient. To ensure that your pet is receiving the correct temperatures, measure the temperature using the Zoo Med ReptiTemp Digital Infrared Thermometer at their basking area.
To extend the lifespan of the bulb, wear gloves while installing it to avoid transferring skin oils onto the glass. Additionally, avoid unnecessary movement of the lamp, particularly while it is in use as firmament is sensitive to vibrations which will shorten its life span. For example, closing your habitat door can cause enough vibration.
Zoo-Med Basking Bulbs also provide UVA, which has been proven to affect the overall well-being of captive reptiles.
This bulb does not produce UVB.
Estimated bulb lifespan: 2,000 hours or at least 3 months
